This is a level of another many firsts: you have to cut more than one rope at the same time, and candy is no longer directly headed to Om Nom's mouth. You have to cut the rope at the right time to ensure the candy is delivered to Om Nom.
The reason that the rope is not long enough to enter Om Nom's mouth is obvious - if it was, the rope would not have been able to swing to the left to get the third star as shown in Step 4 below. It would have entered Om Nom's mouth straightaway.
